Wondering why multi-family communities are now making life easy for visitors by switching to easy to read building unit ID letters and numbers?
Well here’s the eye opening reason why.
Luckily… we live in Las Vegas.
Where our City Council and the State of Nevada had the foresight to mandated the use of large building ID and unit range numbers (back in the 90’s) for all multi family and commercial developments.
The mandated statue made sure each multi-family development in Nevada displayed their building ID and unit ranges on the sides of each building which faced or fronted roadway traffic.
And by doing so, made it, basically, a no-brainier for emergency personnel to see and go to the exact building and unit in case of an emergency.
Because large letters and numbers could easily be spotted on the sides of each building… without much thought.
They also made sure each development had a plot map community directory at the entrances too.
So why is the important?
Well, a few months ago, over the Holidays, we paid a visit to another State.
Not going to share the State because who wants to throw a Mountain Town under the bus (wink).
The point being is the visit was a semi-stressful experience on the day, during our trip, we we’re looking to meet up with old friends.
You see, they have these HUGE apartment complexes up there, and we’re talking massive.
And our long lost friends just happened to live in one of these ginormous communities.
…and when we pulled in, we quickly noticed there was no plot map directory to guide us to their building?
And to make matters worse, there were no easily visual unit letters or numbers?
So we’re thinking “are you kidding me?”
How is it that Vegas (State of Nevada) mandated these types of signs approximately 30 years ago and other States still don’t have them?
Imagine driving around a 70 building multi-family development looking for your friends apartment when there are no visible building IDs or unit range numbers?
Imagine if the apartment community was like Vegas and everything was easy to see?
But this was not the case.
So we drove up and down, even asking people there if they knew where building 39 was and they didn’t know either.
Eventually, after about 15 minutes of driving in the maze, we called our ole friends and said “we’re lost.”
They said drive straight to the second to last road from the main entry and then turn right, then go right again on the 3rd street up, then drive past the playground on the left and we’ll be standing down stairs to meet you.
What an ordeal.
And they agreed too.
They shared, yea, when we order food or have a delivery the drivers usually call us too.
Wow, huh…
Which leads us to the point of this months release.
Imagine if you were driving into this apartment community in Las Vegas.
Where first you would be greeted by a plot map community directory displaying where all the buildings are located…
And then as you motored through the community you were at peace because you saw easy to read building ID letters with unit range numbers like in the photo above on this release.
Would you not know exactly where you were?
Think about it…
The building letter and unit range numbers are so easy to read you don’t even have to think.
Now imagine if one of your friends said “come to building D” “We’re in apartment 124.”
How easy would this be for you to quickly locate this building, park, and mosey on into meet your friends.
Not only this, but when you entered this apartment complex, you had extra help because the entrance directory identified, by law, all the building IDs and unit numbers on the map, so you knew exactly where to go.
Which is why this release is being provided to enlighten you, the developer, land lord or REIT on why keeping your building ID signage and unit ranges simple spells greater success for all those who live and visit there.
The delivery drivers easily locate where to go and deliver the pizza, food, or goods which tenants ordered online.
But the best part is, visitors quickly know where the building is located within the development.
And when they arrive they see, this is the place.
Because if you look at the photo above… the unit range numbers and building letter ID stand out.
Plus you’ll see the color of the building signage is finished in a powdery sky blue color.
A color which matches the trim color on the buildings and it’s set (installed) on a off white back ground so it POPs right out at you.
Which means, it doesn’t get much simpler to ID your buildings and range numbers, now does it?
So maybe next time you’re planning a multi-family community remodel or upgrade or even a new development, why not go with easy to read flat cut aluminum or acrylic or cast or… wall mounted building letters and numbers too.
